Lost Toddler After Falling In Pekanbaru Trench Found Dead

The joint SAR team found a toddler who was declared missing after drowning in the Parit of Sungai Ara Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Pekanbaru, Riau Province.

Head of Pekanbaru Basarnas Budi Cahyadi said the victim, named Arik Shadad, was 1.5 years old, found 8 kilometers from the scene to the downstream, Sunday, October 20.

"The victim was found dead and then the victim was evacuated and handed over to the family," he said in Pekanbaru, Monday, October 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

With the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation was declared closed and then all elements involved returned to their respective units.

Previously, it was known that on Saturday, October 19, the victim allegedly fell in a ditch in Sungai Ara Village.

At 13.00 WIB the victim, who was 1.5 years old, played around a ditch near his house, then at 13.05 WIB the victim's father looked for his son, but was not found in the vicinity of the ditch.

The Riau Province BPBD has appealed to residents, especially those living on the banks of rivers and flood-prone areas to increase their vigilance because now is the transition period to the rainy season.

"We have received reports that rain is starting to fall in several areas with quite high intensity. This is a condition that needs to be watched out for together," said Head of the Riau BPBD Management Division, Jim Ghafur.

The Joint SAR Team in this operation includes the Pelalawan Regional Disaster Management Agency, Bhabinkabtibmas, village officials and also the surrounding community.
