Chancellor Scholz Ensures Germany's Position And Decision On Ukraine Has Not Changed

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said nothing had changed in Germany's position and decision regarding Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly conveyed his plans to resolve the conflict.

"You know the position of Germany regarding the issues discussed here. Nothing will change," Chancellor Scholz said upon arrival at the EU summit.

"However, I want to say very clearly the most important thing is, we have solidarity and discuss what is possible. The focus is on allocating funds so that Ukraine can defend itself," said the chancellor.

"If not, there are strategic issues that need to be discussed. You know what decisions I have made, and nothing will change," Chancellor Scholz assured.

Kanseli Scholz further claimed "Ukraine can rely" on EU countries. He recalled the decision to allocate a loan to Kyiv of 35 billion euros from revenues sourced from frozen Russian assets.

"This is guaranteed from a fiscal point of view. Obviously Europe will contribute, if other countries participate, and everything looks like this, then this will be a huge number as a whole," Chancellor Scholz said.

"This is an important signal, a clear signal to Ukraine about solidarity," he continued.

At the same time, according to him, this is a signal to Moscow that support for Kyiv allies will not weaken.

Earlier, President Zelensky on October 16 delivered his "plan" to end the conflict. It includes requests for direct invitations to NATO, transfer of new military aid to Ukraine, long-range attacks on Russia, and use of European air shields to protect Ukrainian territory.

The plan also implies the establishment of a "non-nuclear strategic prevention package" in Ukraine and the post-conflict recovery of Ukraine with the support of Western countries. The plan includes secret attachments only submitted to NATO countries with significant military potential.
