TikTok And SEJIWA Support Digital Security For Youth Accounts

JAKARTA TikTok is holding a school roadshow program with the SEJIWA Foundation to introduce the #SalingJaga program on its platform. Through this program, TikTok wants to introduce digital security features for teenagers.

This program is motivated by the increasing number of internet users. According to a UNICEF study in 2022, 95 percent of children aged 12 to 17 years use the internet every day. Usually, they access the internet twice a day.

Of the many young people who access the internet, especially social media, 500 thousand teenagers have become victims of sexual exploitation in cyberspace. According to TikTok, this needs to be considered so that children and adolescents can explore their potential safely.

"Our mission inspires creativity and brings happiness," said Anggini Setiawan, Communications Director of TikTok Indonesia. "If we want to realize our vision, security commitments are very important for users and teenagers so that they can interact safely."

Therefore, TikTok is partnering with SEJIWA to better take care of young people on its platform. During the roadshow, TikTok and SEJIWA will introduce some of the policies implemented on their platform, both for children and parents.

Young users on TikTok are divided into three parts, namely users aged 14 to 15, users aged 16 to 17 years, and users over 18 years old. TikTok insists that they will not receive an account under 14 years old.

As part of prevention, TikTok will detect the user's movements when registering an account. In the early stages, users are only asked to enter the date and month of birth. In the second stage, new users are asked to enter the year of birth.

If the year entered shows that the account maker is still a minor, TikTok will prevent users from registering an account. Even though the registration stages start from scratch, the account maker will not be able to join because of the system that has read the moves.

Children aged 14 to 15 can create accounts, but there are some limitations that TikTok sets. This account will enter Private mode automatically and its users cannot use features such as DM, video downloads, video downloads, and LIVEs.

Meanwhile, accounts for ages 16 and 17 are made a little different. Even though they are still Private by default, users can disable them. The DM features, video downloads, video strokes, and LIVEs are also turned off automatically, users can still disable them except for the LIVE feature.

Even though they are still teenagers, accounts for 18-year-old children are made more free. They can access any features they want with full responsibility. In addition to classifying age accounts, TikTok also presents the Family Pairing feature or Family Involvement.

Anggini explained that thanks to this feature, "parents or guardians can link TikTok accounts to teenage accounts to control settings. They can set screen time, content, to privacy (easy)."
