President Erdogan: Israel Will Not Stop While Receiving US And EU Support

JAKARTA - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his criticism of Israeli attacks and the indifference of the international community, including the UN Security Council.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara, President Erdogan said countries trying to block Turkey's counterterrorism war openly supported Israel.

"The Israeli government, which pursues Zionist ambitions, will not stop as long as it gets US (United States) and EU (EU) support," President Erdogan said.

"We are wondering what the UN Security Council is waiting to stop Israel", he continued.

At least five UN peacekeepers have been injured in recent days, as Israel carried out attacks in southern Lebanon and the Hezbollah group based there.

UNIFIL, a mission of about 9,500 troops from various countries formed after Israel's 1978 invasion of Lebanon, called the Israeli military "deliberately" firing its position.

The United Nations said on Sunday Israeli tanks had breached the gates of its peacekeeping force base in southern Lebanon, the latest charges for Israeli offenses.

UNIFIL peacekeeping forces said two Israeli Merkava tanks destroyed the main gate of the base and entered forcibly before dawn on Sunday morning.

After the tanks left, bullets exploded 100 meters (yard) away, emitting smoke that was blowing across the base and making UN personnel sick, he said in a statement.
