Vice President Ma'ruf Amin At The Laos Summit Urges East Asian Countries To Recognize Palestinian Countries

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the 19th High-Level Conference of East Asia (19th East Asia Summit) at the ASEAN 45th Summit series in Vientiane, Laos, urged East Asian countries to recognize the existence of Palestinian countries.

In a statement in front of the leaders of ASEAN heads of state and leaders of East Asian countries, the Vice President stressed not to be selective in carrying out international law.

"As leaders, we must take a stand and side with international law and humanity. Don't be selective in carrying out international law. If this continues, I'm afraid that many new conflicts will emerge. I urge countries that have not recognized Palestine to be able to do so immediately," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 11.

The vice president stated that the world is experiencing an increasing deficit of trust due to conflicts and wars. This condition causes constructive cooperation to become difficult to materialize.

The Vice President then reminded the agreement of the East Asian Summit last year, namely maintaining and advancing the region as a center of world growth.

However, the Vice President assessed that the agreement was not enough, but rather with the implementation of commitment.

In addition to urging the regional state to recognize the existence of Palestine, the Vice President also demanded the implementation of the ES10/24 resolution. The resolution contains a legal response from the International Court which, among other things, says that Israel's existence in Palestine is illegal.

"The injustice and humanitarian crisis continue to befall the Palestinian people. Conflicts have also spread elsewhere, outside Gaza and the West Bank. Will various violations of international law like this continue to be tolerated? The implementation of the ES 10/24 Resolution must also continue to be monitored. And the Two-State Solution must remain the main reference for solving the Palestinian problem, "said the Vice President.

The high-level meeting was attended by 10 ASEAN member countries, as well as Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States.
