North Korea Sends Again 40 Balloons Filled With Waste To South Korea

JAKARTA - North Korea for the umpteenth time launched about 40 balloons filled with garbage heading South Korea on Friday (11/10) in the morning, just three days after a similar launch, the South Korean military said.

Reported by ANTARA from Yonhap-OANA, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that it found "many" piles of garbage falling in parts of the inter-Korean border area in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, after the last launch which began on Thursday (10/10) night.

The pile consists of household waste, such as used paper and plastic, but no harmful substances were found.

Since late May, North Korea has launched thousands of balloons filled with garbage towards South Korea. At its last launch last Tuesday, about 100 similar balloons were delivered.

Responding to the launch of the balloon, the South Korean military has broadcast anti-North Korea propaganda every day through loudspeakers along the border since July.

They refrained from shooting down the balloons for safety reasons.

The South Korean military promised to take "firm" military action if North Korea "passes the line" with an ongoing waste balloon campaign or causing serious damage to the people of South Korea.
