Armed Groups Slaughter 20 Miners In Pakistan, Gathered Then Shot

JAKARTA - Unknown armed groups slaughtered workers. Perpetrators led miners in small private coal mines in southwest Pakistan and opened fire on them. It was reported that 20 people were killed and seven others injured.

The attack that occurred in the early hours of the morning in the mineral-rich province of Blochistan was the worst in recent weeks and occurred a few days before the country hosted a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization of the Eurasian group.

This also happened when Islamabad hosted a delegation from Saudi Arabia exploring the mining agreement in the South Asian country in an effort to recover from the economic crisis.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Friday, October 11, in which four Afghan nationals were killed and four others injured.

A group of armed men attacked the Coal mining company Junaid in the Duki area in the early hours of the morning using heavy weapons, said Humayun Khan, a local police station officer.

"They also fired grenades at the mine," he added.

The attackers gathered the miners in one place and opened fire on them. The attack group also destroyed the equipment and burned the mining engine.

So far we have received 20 bodies and six people were injured in district hospitals, said Johar Khan Shadizai, a doctor in Duki.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for reports of the incident, and stated the government was determined to eradicate all forms of terrorism.

The provincial government has ordered an investigation and the case has been registered against an unknown assailant under a terrorism law, an official said.
