Russia Announces Emergency After Ukraine Attacks Bryansk's Arms Warehouse

JAKARTA - Authorities declared a state of emergency in Russia's western region where Ukraine said it had attacked the arsenal overnight.

Authorities said a state of emergency had been declared in a district in the Bryansk region following an explosive explosion.

The Ukrainian military said it attacked a storage warehouse for missile and artillery ammunition, including those sent from North Korea, as well as guided aerial bombs.

Russia and North Korea have denied any arms transfers between the two countries but have pledged to improve military relations.

Bryansk's emergency ministry said the situation was under control, and did not mention any weapons.

The regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz, said via Telegram Russian air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed 24 drones in Bryansk overnight.

The Bryansk region borders Belarus, Ukraine, and the Kursk region of Russia, where Moscow has been fighting to expel Ukrainian troops since August.

Last month a Ukrainian drone strike on the Tver region, west of Moscow, Russia, triggered an explosion of the magnitude of an earthquake in the main arsenal and forced people to leave the nearby city.
