Kominfo Affirms The Blocking Process Of The TEMU Application Is Ongoing

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that they would immediately block the e-commerce application TEMU and Shein from Indonesia, because they were considered to be turning off MSMEs.

Currently, the TEMU application is available and can be downloaded for free on the play store and also the app store. However, Kominfo emphasized that the process of blocking the e-commerce application from China is currently running.

"I said that TEMU, later I was given information that not only TEMU, there is another platform called Shein. That's for women, because clothes, cosmetics," Budi told the media when met in East Jakarta on Wednesday, October 9. "We will definitely block it."

Based on VOI's findings, although this application can still be downloaded, we found that users in Indonesia cannot enter the delivery address in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is committed to moving quickly to block to protect domestic MSME actors from the invasion of foreign products. Currently, foreign products threaten MSME products either through online or offline sales.

Previously, the Minister of Cooperatives and MSMEs Teten Masduki had also sent a letter regarding the protection of MSME products for the business model implemented by the overseas marketplace, TEMU.

Local MSME products need to get government protection from foreign marketplaces that sell foreign products directly from their factories so that the price is very cheap. This is unfair competition and threatens the business continuity of local MSME players," Budi explained further.

Not only in Indonesia, the Commissioner of the US CPSC (Consumer Product Security Commission), Peter Feldman and Douglas Dziak are also evaluating the operation of the two foreign e-commerce sites.
