Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, First Cheap Phone With 6 Years Of Android Update Officially Launched

JAKARTA - Samsung has just launched the Galaxy A16 5G, the first budget phone from this category that was promised to get an Android update for six years. In addition, the phone will also receive a security patch over the same period, until October 2030, an update promise that has never been given to a phone worth about $200 (IDR 3.2 million) before.

The Galaxy A16 5G comes with an octa-core processor that is suspected to be the Exynos 1330, although Samsung has not officially named the chipset. This phone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is supported by 25W fast charging.

On the front, the Galaxy A16 5G displays a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The phone also offers 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 1.5TB using microSD cards, although users must choose between using microSD or a second SIM.

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy A16 5G is equipped with a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide camera, and 2MP macro camera. For selfie purposes, there is a 13MP front camera. Although the basic photography feature without Optical Image Stabilization, the Galaxy A16 5G still provides a good value for entry-level class users.

Not only that, this phone also gets IP54 certification for basic protection against dust and water, a feature that is rarely found on Samsung's budget phones.

Samsung still hasn't announced the official price of the Galaxy A16 5G in the US or global market. However, it is estimated that the price of this phone will be in the range of 200 US dollars to 250 US dollars (Rp 3.9 million), following the price pattern of its predecessor, the Galaxy A15 5G.
