Children Involved In Motorcycle Gangs In Bengkulu Threatened With Emergency Law, Disdik Asked For Socialization

BENGKULU - Bengkulu Regional Police (Polda) will implement Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 against children involved in motorcycle gangs carrying sharp weapons and committing crimes.

"We will impose an Emergency Law on children involved in motorcycle gangs carrying sharp weapons," said Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Bengkulu Police, AKBP Julius Hadi Harjanto, in Bengkulu City, Sunday, October 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

For this reason, his party is working with the City and Provincial Level Education and Culture Office (Disdik) to appeal to all school principals and conduct socialization regarding the understanding of the Emergency Law.

This was done because almost 90 percent of the children involved in motorcycle gangs in Bengkulu City were students at the Junior High School (SMP) and equivalent High School (SMA).

"For diversion, related parties such as prisons, prosecutors, and others will carry out according to procedures. One of the steps to suppress motorcycle gangs in Bengkulu City is to implement the Emergency Law. If it is not implemented, it is feared that there will be casualties in the community," he said.

Meanwhile, Julius explained that his party had alerted hundreds of police personnel starting from the Regional Police, the City Resort Police (Polresta), and the Bengkulu City Sector Police (Polsek) to carry out patrols to ensure that no motorcycle gang action was troubling the community.

It is known that the Bengkulu Police have trained 32 students involved in motorcycle gangs accompanied by parents, school principals, community leaders, and religious leaders in the area.

The guidance was carried out to provide enlightenment to youths involved in motorcycle gangs so as not to repeat mistakes, leave motorcycle gangs, and avoid useless activities.

"If you carry a sharp weapon and then injure someone else, it is no longer juvenile delinquency, but a crime," said Bengkulu Police Chief, Kombes Pol Deddy Nata.

He said that the phenomenon of motorcycle gangs or youth groups in Bengkulu City was very worrying and disturbing to the community.

Therefore, the motorcycle gang phenomenon cannot be categorized as juvenile delinquency, but rather an action that leads to a criminal act.
