YouTube Will Extend Shorts Duration To Three Minutes
JAKARTA YouTube announced an update for Shorts, a competitor from TikTok and Reels, on October 3. The platform under Google will extend the duration of the Shorts video in the near future.
The plan is that the maximum duration of Shorts will be changed to make it three minutes at the request of creators on the platform. This change in duration will take effect from October 15 and will not affect the video uploaded before that date.
"This is the most requested feature by creators, so we're excited to be able to give you more flexibility to tell your story. This change applies to square or higher videos in aspect ratios," explained YouTube.
The video platform explains that they will recommend longer Shorts in a new way. Hopefully, this method can attract more viewers. It's not yet known what the form of the recommendation will look like, but YouTube will release it in the coming months.

In addition to extending the duration of the video, YouTube also makes it look simpler, adding some of the latest features, and giving it the option for viewers or other creators to engage in a trend.
YouTube also added a new option to customize user preferences. The platform will add fewer Shorts Show buttons that can be clicked when usage is interrupted or dislikes certain content. The function of this feature is the same as Not Interestd on TikTok.
"We will introduce the option to 'Show less Shorts'. You can select this setting by clicking the three-dot menu at the top right of any Shorts grid on your Home feed and we will display fewer Shorts on your Home feed," said YouTube.
