Apple AirPods Help Police Find IDR 8.7 Billion Ferrari Stolen

JAKARTA - Police in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA, managed to find a Ferrari 812 GTS worth more than half a million dollars stolen, thanks to a pair of Apple AirPods left in the car by their owners.

On September 16, the Waterbury Police Department (WPD) received a report about a stolen Ferrari from the city ofwakilo, Connecticut, with a value of around 575,000 US dollars (Rp8.7 billion). The WPD Vehicle Theft Task Force could track the vehicle with the help of the car owner's AirPods, which was left inside Ferrari when it was stolen.

Apple's $129 (IDR 1.9 million) AirPods features tracking through the Find My app, which allows police to find the Italian supercar. AirPods can radiate their location to the nearest iPhone, which helps authorities find the vehicle.

According to a WFSB report, the stolen Ferrari was found near a gas station in South Main Street, Waterbury. When the police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect managed to escape but left his iPhone in the stolen Ferrari.

The police then used the iPhone to identify the perpetrator, Dion Schontten, 22, a recurrence perpetrator. On September 26, he was caught driving a stolen Acura and was eventually detained by the police.

Usually, stolen or lost goods are found through the use of AirTags, but this time two different Apple products a pair of AirPods and an iPhone proved useful in resolving this case. If the Ferrari owner does not leave his AirPods, and if the suspect does not leave his iPhone, this situation may not be resolved quickly.
