KPK Respects Polda Metro Jaya Investigate Alexander Marwata-Eko Darmanto Meeting

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) respects the efforts of the Polda Metro Jaya to investigate the meeting between its deputy chairman, Alexander Marwata and former Head of Yogyakarta Customs, Eko Darmanto, who has been sentenced to six years in prison in gratification and money laundering cases. The police are believed to be professional in carrying out their work.

"KPK respects the investigation process being handled by Polda Metro Jaya and believes that investigators will act professionally and procedurally in accordance with applicable legal regulations," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, September 30.

Tessa ensures that the anti-corruption commission helps the police if there is any information needed. "KPK will cooperate with investigators to help convey the facts that happened," he said.

Meanwhile, Alexander Marwata has spoken about the investigation carried out by the Polda Metro Jaya. He was confused that this issue had re-emerged even though he had clarified that he had done it.

"(That's, red) an old issue. I've given a response. I don't know why it's brought up again," said Alexander when confirmed.

Alexander admitted that the meeting with Eko Darmanto in his office had indeed occurred in early 2024. He explained that when the incident occurred, staff accompanied him and other leaders found out.

The meeting was also held before the issuance of an investigation warrant (sprinlidik) which led to Eko's assault. This means that the former head of customs has not become a litigant.

"The meeting was accompanied by two staff and the knowledge of the other leadership," he said.

"The results of my meeting were conveyed to the leadership and structural at the meeting. So all the leaders and structural officials knew about the meeting," continued the former judge.

Previously reported, KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata was policed regarding his alleged meeting with the former Yogyakarta Customs Chief Eko Darmanto. Polda Metro Jaya is conducting an investigation.

"The investigation that is currently being carried out by the investigation team of the Tipidkor Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya is in order to find and find an incident suspected of being a criminal act," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak to reporters, Friday, September 27.

The alleged criminal acts in question are direct or indirect relationships committed by the KPK leadership with suspects or other parties related to corruption cases handled by anti-corruption agencies.

Ade said the meeting between the two was suspected to have occurred in March 2023. The investigation was carried out starting with a public complaint (dumas) which was then investigated.
