Dozens Of Political Parties In Indonesia Die Suri

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) said that many political parties had suspended animation based on the performance of party organs as internal legal entities for political parties.

Director of State Administration of the Directorate General of General Legal Administration (Ditjen AHU) Kemenkumham Baroto said the political parties that died in the suri almost never held national deliberations (munas) or working meetings (rakers).

"The name of the party remains listed as a legal entity at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, but from the beginning the establishment was new once or twice and for years he has not done anything," Baroto said in a Public Lecture at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (UI) reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 26.

Baroto said it had to be questioned, especially regarding the purpose of the political party being founded, which should aim to build democracy in Indonesia.

Not only related to organ performance, he said, political parties that want to advance Indonesian democracy must first pay attention to the internal legal entities of other parties, such as the distribution of democratic authority, the eradication system, to strengthening the role of regional administrators.

Baroto revealed that a total of 76 political parties with legal entities were registered at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, but only 44 political parties have been active to date, including three new parties, namely the Gelora Party, the Ummat Party, and the United Rising Indonesia Party (IBU).

Meanwhile, he continued, political parties participating in the general election (election) were only 18 parties. In addition, it was recorded that 21 parties changed names and 14 political parties were acquisitions.

He also said that if a political party is still a legal entity and is registered at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, then its position is the same as that of others, including when filing a lawsuit at the Supreme Court (MA) and the Constitutional Court (MK).

"That's why usually the lawsuit that goes to the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court is carried out by parties that are not too big," he said.
