Jokowi Invites All Countries To Respond Quickly To Israeli Attacks On Lebanon

BALIKPAPAN - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited all countries and the United Nations (UN) to respond quickly to the Israeli attack on Lebanon.

"We invite all countries and also the United Nations to respond quickly so that there are not many victims of the Israeli attack," said Jokowi in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province, Antara, Thursday, September 26.

Indonesia also strongly condemns Israel's attack on Lebanon which caused many casualties. The crisis that is ongoing in Lebanon, said Jokowi, the Israeli attack on Lebanon has raised international concerns, including from the Indonesian government.

President Jokowi stated that the Indonesian government will repatriate Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are in the Lebanese conflict zone.

"I have called the Minister of Foreign Affairs to repatriate Indonesian citizens in the conflict zone, and are currently in process," Jokowi explained.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi had previously responded to Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon which were launched on Monday (23/9) and continued until Tuesday (24/9).

"We see the situation and strongly condemn the Israeli attack on Lebanon which resulted in the victims of hundreds of civilian lives, including children," he explained.

The response was conveyed by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, United States, Tuesday (24/9) local time.

According to him, attacks have added to the tension of the situation in the Middle East which has become a humanitarian crisis due to the atrocities that Israel continues to commit to the Palestinian people.

"Violence and aggression should not be a new normal," he said.

In a report from the Lebanese government, as of Tuesday (24/9) the death toll reached 558 people with more than a thousand people injured.
