Assa Abloy Develops Automatic Door Access For Spot Robots

JAKARTA Assa Abloy, a key and security company from Sweden, has partnered with robot developer Boston Dynamics. Both companies will develop digital door access for robots.

This agreement was announced only on Monday, September 23. Reporting from TechCrunch, Assa Abloy said that this door access system will be added to the Spot robot. Later, the robot made by Boston Dynamics can open the door automatically.

According to Assa Abloy, Spot does not yet have an autonomous system that can support its activities on patrol. Therefore, "the word 'autonomous' does not apply to Spot's ability to open doors that are still controlled by easy access."

So far, Spot has had no problems passing through smart doors. The robot uses embedded digital access credentials that use Bluetooth. This system can communicate with HID brand Signo readers from Assa Abloy.

Although its capabilities are good enough, moreover, the robot does not need to tap its feet on the panel, Boston Dynamics wants to improve the access system to its digital doors. This idea was accepted by Assa Abloy and the company will create a new system.

By establishing long-term cooperation with Assa Abloy, Boston Dynamics can develop a smarter leading-guard robot. Installation of the door access system also improves the robot's performance to patrol faster.

It is not yet known when the new digital door access system will be added to Spot. However, the two companies are trying to make Spot a security dog that can patrol inside and outside the building without any problems.
