JAKARTA - OpenAI's official press account at X @Openanewsroom appears to have been hacked by cryptocurrency fraudsters around Monday, September 23.

In his post, TechCrunch found that the account announced products and policies on OpenAI branded blockchain tokens that were claimed to be new, namely $OPENAI.

We are excited to announce the $OPEANAI: the gap between AI and blockchain technology. All OpenAI users have the right to claim part of the initial supply of $OPENAI. Holding on to $OPENAI will provide access to all our beta programs in the future," the post reads.

But, according to VOI's monitoring, the post appeared to have been immediately deleted by the company, and they said the comments were turned off because of the malicious link. Good luck everyone."

This is not the first time an account linked to OpenAI has been compromised by irresponsible parties as part of a phishing campaign.

In June 2023, OpenAI's CTO account, Mira Murati, uploaded a similar message promoting a fictitious crypto token $OPENAI.

Then, three months ago, the account of the chief scientist of OpenAI, Jakub Pachocki, and OpenAI researcher Jason Wei, had also been hacked and used to publish fraudulent posts identical to posts on the OpenAI Newsroom account.
