JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet said the MPR would invite the families of the 2nd President Suharto and 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur to resolve the legacy of political problems in the past in order to build national reconciliation.
According to him, the meeting will be held by the MPR before ending the term of office for the 2019-2024 period. The plan, he said the meeting would be held on 28-29 September 2024.
"After we invited Bung Karno's family tremendously yesterday, all the people were touched in a very wise atmosphere," said Bamsoet in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 23.
Regarding the invitation, according to him, the MPR will follow up on a request from the Golkar Party faction to review Article 4 of the MPR Decree (TAP) Number XI/MPR/1998 concerning Organizers who are Clean, Free of Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism.
The article reads that efforts to eradicate corruption, collusion, and nepotism must be carried out to all parties, including explicitly mentioning Suharto.
Later, he said, the TAP will be studied so that the article is declared already implemented, without revoking the TAP or reducing its meaning.
