KPK: Corruption Hampers Economic Growth And Harms The State

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that corruption is still a serious problem in the country. All parties are asked to pay more attention, including members of the newly elected DPR and DPD RI.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron during the Anti-Corruption Strengthening activity for State Officials with Integrity (PAKU Integrity) against 269 members of the DPR and DPD RI elected for the period 2024-2029. This event is a series of National Values Established by the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) and the General Election Commission (KPU) in Jakarta.

"We hope that members of the DPR and DPD can bring about corruption issues as an important issue," said Ghufron in a written statement, Monday, September 23.

"Because corruption hinders economic growth and harms the country," he continued.

Ghufron said that the state's goals would be difficult to achieve if there was still corruption. Thus, all parties must participate in eradicating fraudulent practices.

"KPK continues to try to prevent corruption through various approaches, one of which is by involving the community to reduce the level of corruption," he said.

In addition, the anti-corruption commission also reminded the government that in the future it must be more transparent and accountable. Applying anti-corruption values is a must.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that elected members of the DPR and DPD RI must carry out their legislative, supervisory, and budgeting functions with integrity. Being a government guard for the welfare of the community is an obligation.

"Members of the DPR and DPD must be able to guard the government to achieve people's welfare and advance various fields, including facing economic and demographic challenges," he said on the occasion.

The determination of National Values held by Lemhanas and the KPU was carried out for nine days from September 21 to September 29. The first seven days of activities will be held in Jakarta and the rest will be in Bogor, West Java.
