Final Standings Of PON 2024: West Java Is The General Champion
JAKARTA - West Java Province (West Java) managed to emerge as the overall champion at the XXI 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) which was just completed last night.
The closing ceremony for the most prestigious quadrennial sporting event in Indonesia took place at the North Sumatra Main Stadium, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Friday, September 20, 2024 evening WIB.
West Java for the third time in a row came back as champions in this multi-branch event. They topped the final standings for medals with 195 gold, 163 silver, and 182 bronze.
Following them in the second position are the Capital Special Region (DKI) Province of Jakarta. This area finished with a total of 479 medals consisting of 184 gold, 150 silver, and 140 bronze medals.
Then completing the top three positions are East Java Province which has a total collection of 425 medals. The details consist of 146 gold medals, 136 silver medals, and 143 bronze medals.
The hosts of North Sumatra followed in fourth place. They got a total of 254 medals consisting of 79 gold medals, 59 silver medals, and 116 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the other host Aceh filled the sixth place, behind Central Java which finished fifth. Aceh has a collection of 65 gold medals, 48 silver medals, and 79 bronze medals.
This year's edition of PON recorded 65 sports, 87 disciplines, and 1,042 match numbers. A total of 13,000 athletes and more than 6,000 officials, which is the largest in history.
The next edition of the National Sports Week will be held in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province in 2028.
