Facing 80 Cases Of Teenagers In 8 Months, Pangkalpinang Riau Implements A Curfew

BABEL - Pangkalpinang City Government (Pemkot) in Bangka Belitung Islands Province (Babel), immediately implemented a curfew to suppress cases of juvenile delinquency and child abuse.

"Today we will immediately hold a limited and closed meeting to implement this curfew for children," said Acting Mayor of Pangkalpinang, Budi Utama in Pangkalpinang, Wednesday, September 18, as quoted by Antara.

He said the data on juvenile delinquency and child abuse cases from January to August 2024 had reached 80 cases, or quite high because local regulations had not yet been enforced regarding this curfew.

There are even two cases of children still in the sixth grade of pregnant elementary schools due to promiscuity among students in this area.

"After this meeting, we will implement a curfew for minors," he said.

He stated that in overcoming underage children dating in official homes and office complexes of the Pangkalpinang City Government, he had instructed street lighting lights to remain on, so that no more children would do unwanted things that would harm themselves and their future.

"These lighting lights must be turned on until 02.00 in the morning, so that the official housing complex and city government offices are no longer used for negative things," he said.

"He hopes that parents will supervise their children's interactions, lest children be trapped in promiscuity which will harm themselves, their families and their future," he said.
