Trump's Safety Priority Team After Shooting Efforts, How's The Campaign This Week?

JAKARTA - The Donald Trump campaign team ensured that Republican presidential candidates survived the shooting attempt, saying their safety was a priority, when a number of agenda activities awaits this week.

"President Trump is safe after gunshots were heard around him. There were no further details at the time," said Steven Cheung, communications director of Trump's Campaign, quoted from WDBJ7 September 16.

Citing Al Jazeera, Trump's campaign team has so far not indicated any changes to the former president's schedule following Sunday's events.

The former president is preparing to hold a campaign in feasibility, Michigan, on Tuesday night. Polls show competition remains tight in the state of the rotary battlefield.

He will then hold a campaign in Uniondale, New York, on Wednesday before heading to Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday to deliver a speech on the economy.

Trump himself did not stop his public appearance after an attempted murder in July. He attended the Republican National Convention and appeared at several events in the following days.

An email to Trump's campaign staff obtained by AP was quoted as saying, "This is not a matter we take lightly. Your safety has always been our top priority. We ask you to remain vigilant in every activity of yours."

"When we enter the last 50 days of President Trump's campaign, we must remember that we will only be able to save America from those trying to destroy it by working together as a team," he added.

As previously reported, Trump survived after being the target of what the FBI said "appears to be an attempted murder" at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday local time.

A US Secret Service agent placed in several holes from where Trump played saw AK-type riflenoses sticking out of the bushes lined up along the pitch, about 400 yards away.

An agent opened fire and the gunman dropped his rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving the firearm along with two backpacks, binoculars used to target, and a GoPro camera, said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. Later, the man was arrested by security forces.

President Joe Biden, who was told of this incident, repeated his criticism of political violence, grateful that Trump survived unharmed and ordered his security to be tightened.

The former president and their partner have the protection of Secret Service for life. However, security around the former president varies according to levels of threats and exposure, with the toughest action usually taken as soon as they leave the office.

The protection given to Trump is higher than any other former president, due to his high visibility and re-nomination of himself in the 2024 US Presidential Election.
