KPU : Organizers And Press Have Ethics To Spread Information
MANADO - Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) of North Sulawesi, Meidy Tinangon, said that both Pilkada and press organizers have ethics in disseminating information.
"The code of ethics in the dissemination of information including information on regional elections must be obeyed," said Meidy in Manado, Friday.
This ethical compliance with the dissemination of information was conveyed by Meidy as a source in the Workshop Covering the 2024 General Election/Pilkada which was held by the Press Council.
On this occasion, Meidy conveyed several principles in the regional election laws and regulations, the regional elections, the arrangements for community participation, the role of the press and code of ethics in conveying election information.

"The KPU and the press have something in common, including having to be neutral in the regional elections and each having a code of ethics," said Tinangon.
According to him, the code of ethics that must be obeyed by the KPU is as regulated in DKPP Regulation Number 2 of 2017 and KPU Regulation concerning KPU, Provincial and Regency/City KPU.
"The election organizers cannot provide opinions, comments and responses that have a tendency to take sides with election participants on social media or in other media," said Tinangon.
The code of ethics and other behavior, in Tinangon's presentation, is that it must convey correct information to the public in accordance with data and or facts.
"Be careful in expressing opinions and information by avoiding the emergence of uncertainty or confusion of information," said the Head of the North Sulawesi KPU Legal and Supervision Division.
Tinangon added, in KPU Regulation Number 9 of 2022, it is stated that participating in the community can receive and provide election or election information in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.
"The public, including the press, can also request and receive confirmation and/or clarification on election information or elections received in accordance with the provisions of the legislation, as well as conveying and disseminating election information or elections," he said.
Other sources in the workshop were members of the Press Council, Bawaslu, KPID, and from survey institutions, while the participants were members of the press and press council partners.
