Touched, The Story Behind The Great Success Of The Black Myth: Wukong PC Game
JAKARTA - Black Myth: Wukong, an action game based on the legend Monkey King, has sold 18 million copies in the two weeks since its launch. This is one of the best-selling games in the global gaming industry.
This record then yields huge profits for its main investor, Hero Games, a small company owned by Daniel Wu, who is the largest external shareholder of Game Science, creator of Wukong.
With this achievement, Wu admitted that his investment paid off. Because Wukong has sold more than the most popular games like Elden Ring and Zelda.
For Wu, Wukong is more than just a revolutionary game. He and founder of Game Science, Feng Ji, tied their fate to the success of console and PC games in a mobile entertainment-dominated country.
Since its release on August 20, Wukong has also broken several records for the single-player game category, beating Cyberpunk 2077. Wukong's profit is estimated to have generated 700 million US dollars (Rp10.7 trillion), only losing to Call of Duty which earned 1 billion US dollars (Rp15.4 trillion) in 10 days.

This success came after Wu and Feng took a big risk to make the project a reality. The Science game had previously failed with three free mobile games.
"If you want to hear the truth, today's Game Science success builds on four successive failures," Wu said in an exclusive interview.
However, this failure did not make Wu back down, when Feng asked for more funding to create an ambitious project later known as Black Myth One in 2018.
Currently, Wukong's expansion is being worked on, giving it the opportunity to earn more revenue. Wu hopes that this success will trigger more games based on Chinese history and culture that dare to be built for consoles.
