Bunga Citra Lestari Collaborates With Brother-in-law From Malaysia At Single Watak Utama
JAKARTA - Bunga Citra Lestari (BCL) collaborated with Malaysian singer based in Los Angeles, Yuna, through a single entitled Tentak Utama.
Yuna is not a foreigner to BCL. They are brother-in-law. Yuna's husband is the younger brother of the late Ashraf Sinclair, BCL's husband.
Despite their relationship, the collaboration between BCL and Yuna is not just a 'family music project'. Both have their respective fan bases. BCL has more than 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, while Yuna has more than 1 million fans.
President brain was written by Yuna, BCL, and Pierre Jamerson Jr who also acted as producers. They have their respective roles in completing this song.
"The title song was created by Yuna. I also participated here to write a little lyrics in the song, a two-language merger, so I wrote the lyrics in Indonesian," said Bunga Citra Lestari in her statement, Friday, September 13.
This collaboration did not come suddenly. BCL said that his brother-in-law had wanted a duet project with him for a long time.
"From the beginning I wanted to. Okay, we are sister, sister in law, and both singers, but we have never had a project together. And I am someone who adre once with Yuna and her works," said BCL.
"So it's like wanting to have cooperation with my own sister, and yes, I can only say now," he continued.
Initially the song "Waktak Utama" was a Malay song sung by Yuna herself, thanks to BCL's suggestion, it was finally decided that this song would be the work of their first duet.

"Because I think in this song Yuna it sounds more 'principles' are more pop than Yuna's other songs. And this is something I think I can enter like that. So Yuna was not chosen as a duet friend, but this is already really wanting to have a project with Yuna and has just arrived now," said the 41-year-old singer.
During the recording process, BCL admitted that he did not find any significant difficulties. According to him, Yuna's work is simple, easy to memorize, good to hear, and easy to sing.
"Maybe in the recording process, (it's difficult) to play Yuna's part and which part. Then how to connect the voices of the two of us, how to meet in the middle, and in this song many ad-libs too. But this is not a problem," he said.
Furthermore, BCL also praised Yura's musical career. He said his sister-in-law had great potential to become a professional singer since she was a teenager, when she debuted an album titled "Live Your Life" produced by Pharrell Williams.
"It's great and makes me proud that Yuna has released three studio albums and two EPs. Yuna has also collaborated with well-known singers such as Usher, G-Eazy, Tyler, the Creator, Sweat$ and Lil Simz," concluded BCL.
