Odegaard Injured Following Calafiori And Merino, Arsenal Danger Warning In The Match Against Tottenham
JAKARTA - Arsenal are in danger. An important match against Tottenham Hotspur in The North London Derby will make it difficult for Arsenal to lose captain Martin Odegard. In addition, defender Riccardo Calafiori and midfielder Mikel Merino were also absent due to injury.
The international match really became a nightmare for Arsenal. The players, one by one, fell. Previously, Merino was forced to postpone her debut with Arsenal. Because of this, he was injured when he had just had his first training with Arsenal.
In the collision with Gabriel Magalhaes, the Spaniard suffered a shoulder injury. The injury forced Merino to pull over. He was also absent from strengthening Spain in the Nations League.
After Merino, Arsenal also lost Calafiori. The defender, who has just joined the North London club, suffered an injury while bringing Italy to a 3-1 win against France in the Nations League.
Calafori has returned to the club for treatment. However, he is doubtful about appearing against Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday, September 15, 2024 evening WIB.
Finally, Odegaard had to pull over after suffering an ankle injury while strengthening Norway in the Nations League match against Austria. The Arsenal captain was pulled out after colliding with Austrian midfielder Christoph Baumgartner in the second half in Norway's 2-1 win.
"The injury of Martin Odegaard is quite severe. He received intensive care from physiotherapies while in the dressing room. He had an ankle injury. Luckily he didn't tear his ligament," said Norwegian coach Stale Solbakken.
After suffering an injury, Odegaard immediately flew to London on a private plane. He is undergoing club care. However, Odegaard is confirmed to be absent from strengthening Arsenal for one month. This means he cannot appear at the North London derby.
In addition, Arsenal is no longer strengthened by the center-back of the Japanese national team Takehiro Tamiyasu who has not recovered from a knee injury. Meanwhile, striker Gabriel Jesus is still grappling with a muscle injury.
Finally, midfielder Declan Rice had to miss after receiving a red card in the last match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
With the absence of some of the pillar players, manager Mikel Arteta certainly couldn't field the best squad against next door neighbors.
Arsenal actually started the competition with a satisfactory result despite failing to get the perfect points in the first three matches.
They won over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. But the Gunners were then held 1-1 so they only collected seven points.
This achievement made Arsenal stuck in fourth place. Still two points adrift of Manchester City and Liverpool who are at the top.
