Police Arrest A Gang Of Thieves With Airsoft Gun In Surabaya

The East Java Regional Police arrested a gang of motor vehicle thefts (curanmor) which often threatened their victims with airsoft guns.

Kasubdit Jatanras Polda Jatim AKBP Arbaridi Jumhur said the two perpetrators arrested were residents of Lumajang with the initials MSA (30) and NB (28).

"This perpetrator always carries an airsoft gun to scare his victims in action," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 9.

The two actors had their respective roles when carrying out the action. MSA acts as the executor who takes away the stolen motorbike by breaking the lock of the vehicle using a special T-shaped device, while NB is a jockey.

"One of the actions was carried out on February 10, 2024 at around 16.00 WIB. In front of a shop in Gumuk Sari Hamlet, Nogosari Village, Rambi Puji District, Jember Regency," said Jumhur.

Then on April 23, 2024 at around 17.30 WIB, at home in Tegal Besar Village, Kaliwates District, Jember Regency or to be precise in the front yard of the Awaitul Qur'an Dormitory, Jalan Imam Bonjol Number 47.

The perpetrator took away a unit of a red and black Honda Vario 125 motorcycle.

"The perpetrators played like the other perpetrators, went to the crime scene and then they drew (observed). If they think it's safe then the perpetrators commit theft," he said.

After getting the second stolen, the perpetrator then sold the vehicle to a friend named Samin.

"One stolen motorbike is valued at IDR 4,700,000. Currently, Samin is set on the wanted list (DPO), aka a fugitive," said Jumhur.

Not only arresting the perpetrators, the police also obtained a number of stolen items. Among others, a Honda Scoppy motorcycle, two Vario motorcycles and firearms and ammunition.

For his actions, the perpetrator is subject to Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a weight with a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison.
