Gregoria Hangs Certainty To Appear At The Hong Kong Open 2024

JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, still has not provided certainty whether she will appear or not at the Hong Kong Open 2024 next week.

The Super 500 BWF level tournament will take place from 10-15 September 2024. It is likely that the tournament will be Gregoria's first event since winning a bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Just pray. Hopefully, the rest of today can be used properly to increase shortages," said Gregoria.

The 25-year-old athlete had to miss two consecutive tournaments after taking the third podium in Paris, France. He was sidelined due to contracting the chickenpox virus.

The two tournaments he cannot participate in are the Japan Open 2024 (20-25 August) with Super 750 levels BWF and the Korea Open 2024 (27 August to 1 September) with Super 500 levels.

Gregoria said that currently his condition is not a hundred percent fit. However, he has started preparing himself to return to the competition soon.

"So far, until this week it's actually okay. It's just like there's still a lack of preparation for the match. However, hopefully it will be overtaken until the weekend tomorrow," he said.

Gregoria was the first Indonesian women's singles to win an Olympic medal after Maria Kristin, who brought home a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

This achievement made this badminton player from Wonogiri get a number of big bonuses. Most recently, he was given a prize of Rp. 1 billion from a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN).

His coach, Herli Djaenudin, also received IDR 100 million from the red-plated business entity.

Gregoria received the bonus with gold medal-winning athletes Veddriq Leonardo (rock climbing sport) and Rizki Juniansyah (weightlifting). These two athletes each received IDR 2.5 billion.

The coach and assistant coach of the two gold-winning athletes received Rp100 million and Rp50 million in a row. So, the total BUMN disbursed a total of Rp6.4 billion for their achievements.
