After Extending Registration, KPU Will Continue Pilkada Stages With Single Candidates

JAKARTA - The Regional Head Election Contest (Pilkada) in a number of regions was attended by a single candidate. The General Elections Commission (KPU) had extended the registration period for regional head candidates in the region with single candidates.

When the extension period runs out, and there are no other candidates, the Pilkada process will continue to the next stage.

"The single candidate is constitutional because this is explained in the Constitutional Court's decision number 100/PUU-XIII/2015," said Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Technical Division Idham Holik when contacted in Jakarta, Sunday, as reported by ANTARA.

According to him, from the data there are only candidates for the 2024 Pilkada in 43 regions, with details of one province, 37 district levels, and five cities.

He said that the KPU is currently reopening the extension period for registration of regional head candidates who only have single candidates, and the average ends on September 4.

Idham explained, when during the extension period there were still no candidates who registered to fight the single candidate, the KPU would continue to the next stage according to schedule.

"If after the extension period of registration, which is generally opened on September 2-4, it remains one candidate, then the Pilkada will continue with a single candidate," he said.

Idham added that later the single candidate will take the serial number that will be installed on the ballot, if the single candidate gets serial number 2 then the photo of the candidate pair is placed on the right.

Then continued Idham, the left image only has a number and an empty image, the opposite.

"Later, voters will be provided on two options in the ballot, depending on the results of the draw. Because the election with the single candidate will still be held to draw serial numbers," he said.
