Saptoyogo Purnomo Wins Medal At The Paris 2024 Paralympics, Jokowi: Asia's Record Has Been Broken!
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulated the achievements of Indonesian athletic athletes Saptoyogo Purnomo at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, and managed to break Asian records.
"Congratulations to Saptoyogo Purnomo for the brilliant victory at the 2024 Paralympics! The Asian record was successfully broken!" Jokowi wrote in a description of @jokowi's Instagram upload in Jakarta, Sunday.
The Head of State said that the silver medal won by Saptoyogo Purnomo with 11.26 seconds brought Indonesia's name to shine even more.
Athletes of Indonesian athletics Saptoyogo Purnomo won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics after recording 11.26 seconds in the men's 100-meter final in the T37 classification, Saturday WIB.
Quoted from the official statement of the Indonesian Paralympic Committee (NPC), Saptoyogo was actually only burdened with a bronze medal target at the 2024 Paralympics or the same as the medals he got at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
In the qualifying round, Saptoyogo was also in third place with a time of 11.35 seconds. He was behind two Brazilian representatives, Ricardo Gomes de Mendonca (11.07 seconds) and Edson Cavalcante Pinheiro (11.33 seconds).
However, in the final, Saptoyogo was able to improve his time record to 11.26 seconds.
A time of 11.26 seconds confirms Saptoyogo won a silver medal, as well as breaking the Asian record he made at the 2022 Asian Para Games. At that time, Saptoyogo won a gold medal with a time of 11.28 seconds.
