Failed To Advance Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, Anies: Our Democracy Is Still A Very Ringkih

JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan assesses that the current implementation of democracy in Indonesia is still fragile. Anies felt this after failing to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial election because he did not get a nomination ticket.

"What I feel when I follow this process is open to the fact that our political system, our democracy, is still very remote," said Anies in a video caption, Friday, August 30.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta assessed that there is a task that must be done, namely inviting all people to have a better awareness about the political and democratic processes.

"It's not something simple, but we have to work hard and I don't think we should stop here. Therefore, one of the big goals that will be fought for in the future is to increase Indonesia's political awareness and democracy," explained Anies.

On the one hand, Aies admitted that he regretted failing to run for the 2024 Pilkada to become a candidate for the Governor of DKI Jakarta for the second period.

Anies' regret arose when he realized that he could not fulfill the aspirations of the people to be carried out when he returned to governorship.

"If I am asked if there are regrets or not, there is, there is regret. What I regret? What I regret is the aspirations of the poor people of the city, the poor people of the city who came to this house, in this place, after yesterday's presidential election took turns, groups came to convey their wishes, aspirations 'Sir, please return the conditions we felt yesterday'," said Anies.

Anies explained that many Jakarta residents have complained about the lack of attention from the government in the last 1.5 years. Mainly about the lack of structuring of slum villages to improving their economic conditions.

"If you say you have feelings, yes, there are feelings, oh my, we can't solve these aspirations. Look at the abandoned residents of Kampung Bayam, it's hard to feel. Look at the villages that we come to every time, 'Sir, please finish this', it's hard if they can't get a completion of their efforts to improve their welfare," explained Anies.
