This is the reason why Riza Patria-Marshel withdrew from the Tangsel mayoral election
JAKARTA - Ahmad Riza Patria and Marshel Widianto decided to resign before registering as candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang (Tangsel) in the 2024 Pilkada.
Riza, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the DKI Jakarta Gerindra Party, admitted that he had other duties from his party. However, he did not reveal what the task was.
"I got another assignment, later a special task from the party. That's why I resigned, yes," said Riza when met at the DKI Jakarta KPU Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, August 28.
Likewise with Marshel. Komika, who is now also a Gerindra cadre, called Riza, also received other duties from the party led by Prabowo Subianto.
"Yes, the same, later the same. Because he is a cadre, later there will be other tasks, yes," he replied.
When asked if the task was related to Ridwan Kamil-Suswono's winning strategy, Riza was reluctant to answer.
"Yes, basically there is a special task from the party," he added.
Previously, it was reported that the PKS party's support for the Riza-Marshel pair was withdrawn. It was said that the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Achmad Yani said that the Constitutional Court's decision was about reducing the threshold for regional head candidacy, which was the reason PKS canceled the investigation of Marshel Widianto in the election of the Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang.
"Yes, of course with the Constitutional Court, PKS has a chance there to run," Yani told reporters, Tuesday, August 27.
Following that, the Democrat Party and PAN also withdrew support for Riza-Marshel in line with the news that the two of them canceled running for the South Tangerang Pilkada. PAN and Democrats are now carrying Benyamin Davnie and Pilar Saga Ichsan, who were first promoted by the Golkar Party in the South Tangerang mayoral election.
