Jokowi Appreciates The Submission Of Aspirations, Asks Demonstrators To Be Released

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized the importance of conveying aspirations and opinions in the democratic system in Indonesia.

Jokowi stated that a democratic country must respect the delivery of opinions.

"I really appreciate that, I really respect that, and I entrust it, I only entrust it, I ask that the conveyation of the aspirations be carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner so that it does not harm, does not interfere with residents' activities, and others," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 27.

President Jokowi also responded to the latest situation related to demonstrations by suggesting that detained protesters be released immediately.

"And yesterday there was a demonstration yesterday. For the demonstrators who are still being held, I hope they can be released soon," he said.

The President also appreciated the DPR's quick steps in responding to the developing situation, referring to the cancellation of the 2024 Pilkada Law revision after the demonstration.

"I appreciate the DPR's quick steps in responding to the developing situation, a quick response is a good thing," he said.

Jokowi said the quick response to urgent issues such as the Asset Confiscation Bill, which is important for eradicating corruption, is also expected to be resolved by the DPR.
