Landslide Hits Alaska, 1 Person Dies, 3 Others Injured
JAKARTA - Landslides hit the Ketikan area in Alaska killing at least 1 person, 3 others injured.
Alaskan Governor Mike Dunleavy said landslides also caused a number of houses to be heavily damaged and power outages.
Meanwhile, residents whose houses were affected by landslides were evacuated to a safe location.
"I have directed state agencies to provide all resources and staff for emergency response efforts," said Dunleavy, quoted by CBN News, Monday, August 26.
Local officials said the evacuated residents were temporarily placed in Ketchikan High School.
Dunleavy said a senior specialist in Emergency Response and Homeland Security was dispatched to Alaska today.
Ketikan Mayor Dave Kiffer admitted that for 65 years he lived in Ketikan and had never experienced a landslide that big.
