Kominfo Threatens To Block Bigo Live Related To Online And Pornography Gambling Content
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that Kominfo is ready to take legal steps and block Bigo Live related to online gambling and pornographic content.
Budi said that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics had sent a second warning letter to PT Bigo Technology Indonesia on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, asking the company to remove all negative content circulating in its application.
The first warning letter sent by Kominfo was on July 16, 2024.
"If Bigo Live does not show good faith to solve this problem of online gambling and pornography, then we will take legal steps in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, not limited to blocking the Bigo Live application in Indonesia," Budi said in his official broadcast on Thursday, August 22.

Not only that, but the Minister of Communication and Information Budi also asked Bigo Live to be obliged to improve its platform moderation system in order to prevent the resurgence of negative content in the future.
Based on the results of cyber patrols conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics from May 26 to August 8, 2024, there are 121 accounts related to online gambling content in the Bigo Live application.
"As for the results of cyber patrols from August 15 to 18, 2024, there are 32 accounts related to pornographic content in the Bigo Live application," Budi continued.
