BMKG: Earthquake In Buol Triggers Sulawesi Sea Plate Activities
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the earthquake that rocked Lakea District, Buol Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday afternoon was caused by the Subduction of the Sulawesi Sea Plate."The earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow depth earthquake," said Head of Manado Geophysics Station Tony Agus Wijaya in Manado, Thursday, August 22, which was confiscated by Antara.The 4.2 magnitude earthquake occurred on Thursday, August 22 at 12:03 WITA.He explained that the epicenter was located 32 km northwest of Buol with a depth of 13 kilometers."The results of the BMKG analysis show that the earthquake has a parameter M 4.2 with the epicenter of the earthquake located at coordinates 1.25 North Latitude and 121.27 East Longitude," he said. The earthquake was felt with intensity II-III MMI and there was no damage from the incident.
According to him, after the earthquake, there was one aftershock at 13:29 WITA."People in the Lakea area of Buol Regency and its surroundings should remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified," he said.However, he ensured that based on observations the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
