IOS 18: There Is An Interesting Update On The Maps Application

JAKARTA - On iOS 18 update, almost all Apple's default apps got new features, including the Maps app. Although there is no striking AI addition, Apple has inserted some useful changes to the user experience.

Climbing Line

After adding a topographic map to Apple Watch last year, now a more detailed topographic map is also present on the iPhone via the Maps app. This application now displays a complete climbing path network, including 63 national parks in the United States. Users can search for "hiking" or "hiking" in the Maps app to find the nearest path option. The information displayed includes path lengths, altitudes, ratings, and other details. The hiking trail can be filtered by length, types of routes (loops, points to points, or out and backs), and elevations, as well as can be stored for offline access.

Custom Route

On iOS 18, Apple Maps supports the creation of custom routes, allowing users to plan specific hiking trails to take. At the starting point of the climb, users can select the "Create a Custom Route" option to start. From here, users can tag points on the map, and Maps apps will provide route length information and altitude details. This app can also complete the route automatically using the Reverse, Out and Back, or Close Loop option. This feature ensures that the created route is secure, not allowing users to create routes that are not connected to existing paths.

Search in New Location

Apple also makes it easier to search at locations you want to visit by adding the "Search here" button. When searching for locations, for example San Diego, users can tap "Search here" to search for areas that appear on the screen, not just at the user's physical location. When zooming in on the map, the "Search here" button will appear, providing more control to users in determining the search area.

Save Favorites

If users find a favorite climbing path or custom route, they can save it to the Library for future access. Users simply tap "Add to Library" on the relevant paths. The stored Hikes and routes can be downloaded for offline use and can be named or added specific information for future references.

Library

All content stored from Maps apps, including location, route, guide, and pin, is now stored in a new Library section. This simplifies access to newly added and favorite content.

Notes

Users can create notes about certain places in the Maps app by selecting the "Add a Note" option from the menu. This note is private and stored on the device, only visible to the creator.

With this update, the Maps app on iOS 18 is becoming more functional and personal, offering a more complete tool to support outdoor and user travel activities.
