Ukraine Opens Military Office In Russian-Occupied Kursk Region, General Syrskyi: We Continue To Move Forward
JAKARTA - The Ukrainian military commander said Kyiv had opened a military commander's office in the Russian occupied Kursk region, saying its troops had continued to move forward and had seized the region 1.5 km (0.93 miles) in the past 24 hours.
Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi told President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video published by Ukrainian Leader Kyiv forces had advanced 35 km into Russia's Kursk region since launching the attack last week.
Colonel General Syrskyi said Ukrainian troops had taken control of 82 settlements during the raid and an area of 1,150 square kilometers.
"We are moving forward in the Kursk area. A military commander's office has been established that must ensure order and also all the needs of local residents," Colonel General Syrskyi said in a written statement on his Telegram channel.
He added that he had appointed Major General Eduard Moskalyov to head the military commander's office in the western part of Russia controlled by Kyiv.
Kyiv's attack on Russian territory last week shocked Moscow, taking the initiative of Russian troops who had increased small but stable profits throughout the country's eastern part.

The attack on August 6 was carried out by about 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers, using tanks and armored vehicles to break through Russia's borders. Russian troops on Tuesday retaliated against Ukrainian troops by carrying out missile, drone, and airstrikes.
