Again, Four Foreign Fish Thieves Were Sunk By Minister Trenggono In Pontianak

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia today carried out the sinking of four foreign ships with Vietnamese flags that were proven to have committed fish thieves in Indonesian seas. The firm action was taken in the waters of Datok Island, Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

This law enforcement effort is in line with the policy of the Minister of KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in eradicating Illegal Fishing.

The Director for Handling of KKP Violations, Nugroho Aji, said the execution was the result of synergy with the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office as the law enforcement agency.

"We appreciate and thank all staff at the AGO for their cooperation in fighting illegal fishing in Indonesia", he said in an official statement, Thursday, March 25.

Nugroho added, the four illegal foreign fishing vessels with the Vietnamese flag that were destroyed were BV 5248 TS (90GT), BV 5688 TS (80GT), East Suria (105GT), and KG 93255 TS (115 GT).

"These ships were arrested by our ranks because it was proven to have legally committed acts of illegal fishing in our waters", he said.

On the same occasion, Head of the West Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office, Masyhudi, said that the destruction was intended to provide a deterrent effect on pirates of Indonesia's marine wealth.

"This firm action is the implementation of the already inkracht court decision", he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Pontianak District Prosecutor's Office who led the execution said that the destruction of the ship was carried out by means of a hole and a ballast.

"We are supported and facilitated by the KKP to carry out the destruction according to judicial decisions", explained Basuki.

The plan is for the KKP and the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office to continue destroying fish thieves in several areas, such as 10 ships in Natuna, 1 ship Sebatik Nunukan, 1 ship Bitung, 3 ships Merauke, and 1 ship Batam.
