Jusuf Kalla's Advice, DKI Jakarta To Build Flats For Manggarai Fire Victims

JAKARTA As a solution so that the same incident does not happen again, Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Jusuf Kalla or JK asked the DKI Provincial Government to build flats for survivors of the RW 06 and RW 12 fires in Manggarai, South Jakarta.

"The best solution is the flats because they avoid many more fires," said Jusuf Kalla, Antara, Thursday, August 15. Jusuf said this flat is important considering that previously houses in the area were crowded and semi-permanent.

Moreover, if an electrical short circuit or gas explodes, it can spread from one house to another easily.

Therefore, according to this national figure, the existence of flats can be safer, cleaner and save land. "DKI is a large fund, much better, this attention is wanted from the start," he said.

On that occasion, PMI and their staff also provided assistance in the first phase of emergency such as clothes, tents, and other necessities.

"It is impossible for them to live like this, their houses run out, there must be a solution," he said.

The fire in Manggarai occurred on Tuesday morning, August 13, at around 02.30 WIB. A total of 200 semi-permanent houses in RW 06 and 12, Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta were burned down. Meanwhile, 3,332 people from 1,172 families (KK) had to be evacuated to a safer place. No one died and only seven people were injured in the fire.
