Wearing Facial Makeup When Exercising Is Not Recommended, This Is The Reason

JAKARTA - In the world of skin care, removing makeup before bed is an important thing to do. This helps prevent clogged pores, acne, and other skin problems. And it turns out, wearing makeup while exercising can also cause problems.

According to a new study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, it is stated that using powder bases during aerobic exercise affects the skin and pores. Researchers were conducted on 43 students consisting of 20 men and 23 women. The powder instrument in the form of a cream is applied to the forehead and upper cheek in half the face. The other half is left without makeup.

The results showed an increase in post-export humidity across the face, but there was more moisture in the makeup area.

After exercising, the size of the pores of the skin increases on the face that does not wear makeup, but not as much on the side that wears makeup. The amount of oil increases in areas that do not wear makeup and decreases in areas that wear makeup.

"Currently, the trend of wearing makeup while exercising is rife," said the author of the Dongsun Park correspondence, PhD, from the Korean National Education University, launching Healthline, Thursday, August 15.

"This research shows the importance of studying changes in the skin condition of individuals who wear makeup while exercising," explained Park.

Park continued that according to this study, wearing thick makeup such as powder creams while exercising has the potential to cause skin problems such as clogged pores due to sweat accumulation. Therefore, it is advisable to choose lighter makeup or oil-free products to maintain skin health during exercise.

Experts say makeup can clog pores and cause the skin to dry out.

"The reason why it is recommended to remove makeup before bed is that makeup can mix with dead oil and skin cells that clog pores and trigger acne formation," said Dr. Brendan Camp, a dermatologist living in New York.

"The same applies to the use of makeup while exercising. This latest research also shows that the use of makeup during exercise can make the skin tend to be drier."

This research mainly focuses on the powder base, but there are many other types of makeup.

"Maskara, eyeliner, and lipstick don't really cause problems during exercise because they are not applied to all faces," Camp explained.

However, further research is needed to see the impact of certain types of makeup on the skin during exercise.

If you have to use makeup while exercising, change the use of foundation cream with BB cream. The good news is that there are healthier options than a powder base that can provide protection, according to experts.

BB cream is a combination of powder bases and skin care products. This cream is often formulated so as not to cause comodo and is aimed at improving skin color and overall skin appearance. While CC cream or color correction cream is intended to reduce redness or uneven skin color. This cream may have a lighter consistency than BB cream.

To keep your skin healthy, Camp explains several ways to clean your face after exercise.

"After exercising, clean the skin (face and body) to remove excess oil, sweat, bacteria, and residual products that can cause acne or foliculitis," Camp explained.

In addition, while exercising outdoors, protect the skin from the sun. Use an SPF of at least 30, sunglasses, a hat, and don't forget to apply sunscreen to your ears, neck, and lips, Camp said. Drink water while exercising, which will help the skin stay hydrated but also maintain a balance of water in your body.
