Police Name Ponton Captain Hits Lalan Muba Bridge To Collapse As Suspect

PALEMBANG - South Sumatra Police named the captain of the coal pontoon that hit the Lalandi Musi Banyuasin Bridge and collapsed as a suspect.

South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Rachmad A. Wibowo said that so far seven witnesses have been examined by investigators and one of them has been named as a suspect, namely KA, Nuhhotatugboat Medelin Spirit, coal pontoon.

Ambruknya Jembatan Lalan itu mengakibatkan lima orang meninggal dunia dan telah berdampak langsung terhadap sekitar 8.000 jiwa warga di tiga desa.

"As a result of this incident, five people who were active on the bridge became victims and had been found dead by the joint SAR team, including the last victim on behalf of Ribut Riyadi, were found when we arrived at the location earlier," he said.

The Kapolda said that the economic impact was also felt by the community due to the breaking of the bridge which became the lifeblood of people's activities in Musi Banyuasin.

After expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, the Kapolda gave directions for the immediate repair of the electricity network, damaged signal networks, preparing alternative crossings for residents, and efforts to immediately repair bridges.

"My hope is that improvements will be carried out soon, both electricity networks, communication networks and alternative crossings for residents, and repairs to this bridge must be carried out immediately so that it can be used again by the community," he said.
