Meet President Putin, Mahmoud Abbas Discusses Situation In Gaza And Praises Russia's Courage To Support The Palestinian People
JAKARTA - President Mahmoud Abbas explained the current situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, praising Russia's defense of support for the Palestinian people when they met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow Tuesday.
Citing the WAFA News Agency on August 13, Palestinian President Abbas briefed on the latest developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, ongoing aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem and targeting helpless civilians, including children, women and the elderly, total destruction of infrastructure and war that causes hunger.
On the occasion, President Abbas is said to reiterated the Palestinian position calling for an immediate and urgent ceasefire, preventing further bloodshed, Israel's full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and stopping ongoing attacks in the West Bank.
Further said, President Abbas, also called for an end to the economic strangulation and disbursement of the detained Palestinian liberation funds, in preparation for a return to the political horizon based on international legitimacy in accordance with a two-state solution, to end Israel's occupation and restore Palestinian independence, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Furthermore, President Abbas stressed the need for the international community to require Israel to respect international and international legitimacy resolutions, to implement international court decisions and most recently the International Court's (ICJ) ruling, support the full membership of the Palestinian State in the United Nations and hold international peace conferences.
In addition to the development of the situation, President Abbas also emphasized the importance of strengthening historical bilateral relations between the two countries, to serve the interests of the two countries.
President Abbas also praised Russia's efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation under the PLO flag, the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
In addition, he also praised Russia for its bold and steadfast stance in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums.

It is known that President Abbas visited Russia for three days. He arrived in Moscow on Monday and his visit will last until tomorrow.
Apart from President Putin, he is also scheduled to hold a meeting with the ambassadors of Arab countries there, as well as lay wreaths at the Tomb of Unknown Soldiers in Moscow.
