Doctors In India Strike Work Protesting The Murder Of Medical Workers

JAKARTA - Health workers across India decided to go on an indefinite strike as a form of protest against the rape and murder of an intern at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, the broadcaster reported.

Last week, the body of a 32-year-old woman, a postgraduate intern, was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital.

The police then arrested Sanjoy Roy who was a suspect in the case. Roy is a civilian volunteer who often visits hospitals and RG Kar Medical School.

Doctors in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and a number of other cities announced the suspension of all medical services until the investigation into the murder case is completed, the media reported.

NDTV reported that the protesters also demanded that the level of security for all medical staff be tightened.
