MER-C: Indonesian Hospital Building In North Gaza Stable But Lack Of Electricity Supply

JAKARTA - The condition of the Indonesian Hospital (RS) building in Bait Lahiya, North Gaza, Palletina is still stable. However, the availability of electricity sources is a major problem at the hospital.

Ha said the volunteer medical volunteer organization Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) dr. Dany Kurniadi Ramdhan Sp.BS who served at the hospital in a live video channel from North Gaza, Monday 12 August.

"After we reviewed, in general, the most needed for immediate repairs is the source of electricity," he said, quoted from Antara.

Dany explained that the current electricity source of the Indonesian Hospital comes only from the remaining solar panels and can only produce 20 percent of its maximum capacity, as well as from gasoline generators whose operations are very dependent on the delivery of fuel from the World Health Organization (WHO).

He said the limited electricity supply had a profound impact on the ability of Indonesian hospitals to maximize services for Palestinians injured as a result of Israeli bombings. Moreover, the supply of medicines, medical devices, and prosthesis is very low.

Even when we arrived (on August 9), it happened that the lights went out when the operation was running. Finally, the operation was continued even though the lighting only came from cell phone lights, "said the neurosurgeon.

The unstable electricity also has the potential to damage the health devices that are still in use. In fact, not a few medical devices at Indonesian hospitals, such as CT-scan equipment, ultrasound, as well as blood test kits and hepatitis tests, have been damaged by Israeli attacks.

Moreover, Israeli troops also had time to occupy the Indonesian hospital and make it a military base.

Meanwhile, Dany said that structural damage to Indonesian hospitals was not too severe, even after the top two floors of the hospital building were burned down by Israeli onslaught.

"Structurally, the building is still good, there are only a few holes and fires due to rockets and explosions that must be repaired," he said.

"The access road to the RS Indonesia which was destroyed and blocked by the carcass of the burning vehicle has also been gradually cleaned," said the MER-C volunteer.
