Intake Sepaku Can Reduce Floods In IKN Areas

JAKARTA - Head of the Infrastructure Development Task Force for the Capital Nusantara (IKN) Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga said the Sepaku water taker (intake) in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan could reduce flooding in the new capital city of Indonesia.

"Intake Sepaku can minimize flooding in the Sepaku sub-district which is included in the area of Indonesia's new capital city," said Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga quoting Antara. "Intake Sepaku is a large pool that can accommodate water during heavy rains and overflows of the Sepaku River, at least it can prevent major flooding," he added. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is still trying to prevent the occurrence of the flood, one of which is by building the Intake Sepaku. Furthermore, the PUPR Ministry is making improvements to watersheds in the Sepaku sub-district, North Penajam Paser Regency. "Handling and improvement of the Sepaku watershed is also a government effort to overcome flooding in Sepaku that is included in the Nusantara City area," he said.

The improvement of the Sepaku watershed can overcome flooding in an area of approximately 37 hectares, he replied again, for the handling of the Sepaku watershed, it requires land acquisition of around 2.5 hectares. The 2.5 hectare land needed for the improvement of the Sepaku watershed is an asset in mastery (ADP), so that the land acquisition mechanism can be through relocation or provision of compensation money. Referring to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 75 of 2024 concerning the Acceleration of IKN Development, it is possible for relocation or compensation to be carried out in accordance with the development-affected communities, said Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga.
