Calls For Rahman Urbun, Investors Must Involve Local Workers In Teluk Bintuni Regency

JAKARTA - Rahman Urbun called for foreign companies investing in Teluk Bintuni Regency to prioritize local workers. As an area rich in oil and gas, Urbun emphasized the importance of qualification of local workers according to the company's needs.

During his visit to the VOI office in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on August 1, Urbun stated, "This aspiration is natural because our natural resources are explored. We hope that foreign companies that invest can absorb local workers," he said.

Currently, British Petroleum is conducting exploration in Bintuni Bay, and it is likely that other companies will follow. "Hopefully companies like British Petroleum can provide jobs. It is my responsibility to lobby so that local sons can be accommodated," added Urbun, who is waiting for recommendations from Golkar and NasDem for the 2024 Pilkada.

The local government has established a petro school for prospective workers in this industry. Urbun promised to review the plus-minus of the school so that graduates are ready to compete. "We will observe and analyze so that the minus side can be minimized, so that graduates are ready to work and compete with workers from regions or other countries," he said.

If elected as participants in the Pilkada, Urbun and his deputy candidates will take a persuasive approach with community leaders, traditional leaders, and leaders of mass organizations in Bintuni Bay. He also called on the success team and sympathizers to avoid the black campaign. "I don't allow black campaigns. Our focus is on presenting programs, let the public judge," he said.

Urbun is also committed to supporting whoever is elected. "Anyone who is elected is the best son of Teluk Bintuni Regency. Everyone has a vision and mission to advance the region. We are political partners, not opponents," said Rahman Urbun.
