Vice President Akui Worried, Ismail Haniyeh's Death Disrupts Israel's Palestinian Peace Efforts

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin expressed his condolences for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh who died as a result of the airstrikes that occurred in Tehran, Iran. The vice president called the Hamas leader a freedom fighter in Palestine.

"I express my condolences for the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the supreme leader of Hamas, the freedom fighters for Palestinian independence in Israeli colonialism," the Vice President said in a statement, Thursday, August 1.

According to Ma'ruf Amin, the death of Ismail Haniyeh is also a deep sorrow for Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia in its history also continues to echo the independence of Palestine.

The vice president also admitted that he was worried that this incident could spark tensions that disrupted efforts to reconcile the efforts of Palestine and Israel.

"With deaths due to murder, it could be a plan for the negotiations to be raw again, because the problem is that in the midst of efforts to negotiate, there have been killings. This could trigger greater tensions in the Middle East," said the Vice President.

Furthermore, the Vice President hopes that this incident will not extinguish the fire of the struggle for Palestinian independence. He also hopes that tensions in the Middle East will not grow, so that Palestinian peace will soon be realized.

"We hope (both) parties try to prevent even bigger conflicts from occurring, so that peace continues to be pursued," he said.
