The United States Still Holds Bitcoin Worth More Than IDR 180 Trillion

JAKARTA - Data from Arkham Intelligence shows that the United States still holds more than 183,000 Bitcoins, with a value of more than IDR 180 trillion. This amount makes the United States the largest geopolitical owner of a decentralized cryptocurrency.

In addition to Bitcoin, the US government also has other crypto assets, including 50,000 Ether, 121 million Tether, 40,000 Binance Coin, and more than 10 million USD Coin which is a US dollar-based stablecoin.

On July 29, there was a large transaction in which a wallet controlled by the US government transferred nearly 28,000 Bitcoins. However, the identity of the recipient's wallet is still unknown.

Senator Cynthia Lummis, from Wyoming, proposed a law to make Bitcoin a reserve asset for the United States. This plan is considered a 21st century 'Louisiana Purchase', referring to the purchase of America'sagnetic region from France in 1803 worth 15 million US Dollars (approximately IDR 244 billion).

Support also came from former President Donald Trump, who promised not to sell US government-owned Bitcoins. Independent presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., supports this idea and plans to transfer government-owned Bitcoins to Treasury to the United States with 4 million Bitcoins.

However, not all parties believe that Bitcoin will soon become a reserve asset. Quoted from Cointelegraph, Ari Paul, Chief Information Officer at BlockTower Capital, stated that Bitcoin's chances of becoming an official US reserve asset in 2028 were 10:1. According to Paul, the informal statement from the presidential candidate was not enough to formally form Bitcoin reserves.
